Born
in Nov 19?? - Martin Jay went to school at Burlington Danes in West
London where he spent most of his free time playing cricket for his school and
county.
At the age of 13 together with his cousin Ian he began collecting records and
began a big interest in Dj'ing. He was frequently complimented on the quality of
his voice and it was this that spurred him on to put a demo tape together and in
OCTOBER 1987 he started working on community radio stations in West London such
as Pioneer and WLR .
In 1990 London was treated to the birth of Choice FM and Martin
saw this station as somewhere that his career could flourish and began
bombarding management with phone calls and demos telling that the station was
missing a young fresh soca DJ to represent. On September 30th 1990 at 8pm
Martin' s journey moved up a gear and the Caribbean Affair had begun. The
objective was simple as far as Martin was concerned all he had to do each week
was knock himself out and make people happy.
So far so good Martin can still be heard on a Sunday evening between 8 and 10
making people happy by uniting the Caribbean with sweet sweet soca music and
happy vibes. In March 1992 his radio career moved up another notch as he was
given the opportunity to present a Saturday morning breakfast show . The music
was totally different but his happy vibe remained consistent throughout his five
year stint as the weekend breakfast show presenter which only came to a close in
1997 when the station asked Martin to come on board on a daily basis as the co
presenter of the breakfast show. This year will be 9 years of MJ hosting the
breakfast show on London's Number One for Hip Hop and R&B an achievement that he
is very proud of. In this time he has had the pleasure of interviewing Samuel L
Jackson, Katie Price, Sophie Anderton, Destiny's Child, Bow Wow, Will Smith and
his darling Janet Jackson just to name a few.
Martin has traveled extensively to places in the Caribbean, North America Europe
and Canada and has broadcasted live from Barbados, Germany World Cup 2006
Trinidad, St Lucia and South Africa . Being on the radio is one of his biggest
joys in life as well as watching the West Indies play cricket . He hopes to be
on air for many years to come bringing joy to people playing the
music that they love to hear. As well as playing on the radio Martin can found
week in week out nicing up soca parties all over London he has been very
instrumental in the
success of some big ones such as COCOYEA, SOCA CITY, COLOURS,
SOCA JUMBIE and for eight years was co partner of The Original Socarobics
Company with fitness specialist Kawame of Afrobics .
If it's Caribbean Martin loves it.!!!!
