Machel Burns Up Stage

It was all red, orange and yellow at James Bond beach on Saturday as Machel Montano HD literally burnt up the stage at Bacchanal Jamaica's Beach J'Ouvert. The event, which was drink-inclusive, saw many patrons jamming to some good soca and kiaso music, while revelling in barrels of paint provided for their pleasure.

The DJs and Sparkles Disco ensured that the socaholics in attendance had their fair share of music and kept many of them gyrating as they reeled out hit after hit. However, it was not until the paint was unleashed some minutes after 5:00 pm that the true J'Ouvert spirit came to life. Patrons could be seen diving into the paint, throwing it on other patrons, while others ensured that everyone else who remained paintless - in the paint section - got their fair share of paint on their clothes or bodies.

Machel came on stage just after 7:00 pm, and immediately transferred his energy to his surroundings and the crowd. He started off at such a high level that not even the middle speaker on the stage could hold up, as it started to smoke and flames were seen coming from it. However, due to the quick response from the organising team no one really noticed. With the HD family, which comprised Zan and Farmer Nappy, Machel ensured that his audience kept moving from the beginning of his act to the end, and he even got an encore and came back wringing sweat from his shirt.

The show was HD quality from beginning to end and Machel showed why he was the soca energy god. With his usual electric energy on stage, Machel worked the crowd and had everyone waving, wining and even shaking tree branches, while providing exclusive entertainment for his female fans in the form of some serious Machel gyrating. Zan reeled out some of his hits, which included this year's Trinidad carnival hit, Slip Away.

Farmer Nappy kept the audience chippin' on the beach, while Michelle Xavier from Imij and Company covered for Patrice Roberts, who was absent due to illness, by providing plenty of tempo wine. All of this ensured that the show ran smoothly and that patrons enjoyed themselves.
